CV Joints

Professional CV Joint Inspections and Replacements in Wolfforth, Texas

The CV joints – or constant velocity joints – are located on both ends of the front wheel driveshaft. The inner joints connect the driveshaft to the transmission, while the outer joints connect the shaft to the wheels. The joints can last a long time and not require repair or maintenance as long as the special protective boot remains undamaged. Many vehicles will have more than 300,000 miles on the clock and still the original CV joints.

Problems will occur if and when the rubber boot is damaged. When that happens, grease from the joint leaks out, dirt is allowed in, and the joint itself becomes worn out quickly and will eventually fail due to lack of lubrication. If the joint is damaged, it is non-repairable and must be replaced. At Jay's Home Auto Repair we can order them locally and have them shipped to our premises within two or three working days.

CV Joint Repair

CV Joint Repair

The key to sorting a CV joint problem as quickly and cost efficiently as possible is to catch the damage to the CV joint boot early. That way, we can simply repackage the joint with fresh grease and avoid the expense of replacing the entire system. A joint boot is usually sold as a kit, with fresh grease and new clamps. However if the joint itself is damaged it cannot be repaired, only replaced.

Replace CV Joint

At Jay's Home Auto Repair we can have a new CV joint for your vehicle within two to three days, along with other car components such as axles, water pumps and batteries. If the joint is worn out, then it has to be replaced using a new or reconditioned part. Often a whole new driveshaft will be needed so it is a job best left to the professionals.
